Almost anyone can benefit from the right kind of skin resurfacing treatment. Creams, lotions, superficial or more deeply penetrating acid peels, and different types of lasers all have useful roles in the treatment of aging, sun-damaged or acne-damaged skin. For example, skin discolorations are relatively superficial and are commonly the result of sun exposure in combination with pregnancy, oral contraceptives or aging. Mild discolorations are often treated with a light chemical peel applied during several visits to our office. A light peel is one of the few procedures that actually can be done on your "lunch hour," with virtually no downtime.

Wrinkles, on the other hand, originate in the deeper layers of the skin. The selected resurfacing technique must allow deep enough penetration to effectively eliminate surface irregularities and stimulate new collagen growth. But remember, resurfacing treatments will not correct sagging skin or tighten underlying facial structures - for that, there's no substitute for a facelift.
